Gold & Precious Metals

More than a number
on a scale.

Scrap value ignores everything that makes a piece interesting. We look first, weigh second, and explain the difference.

What can affect value

Seven things we look at.

  1. Metal

Carat purity and weight are the starting point, not the conclusion.

  2. Age

Older work is often better made, and sometimes scarce.

  3. Maker

A signed or attributable piece can be worth a great deal more.

  4. Gemstones

Cut, colour, clarity and whether the stones are original to the piece.

  5. Craftsmanship

Hand-fabricated work reads very differently from cast production.

  6. Rarity

Some periods and forms simply do not appear often.

  7. Desirability

What is currently sought after, which changes over time.

Today's rates

We do not publish rates here. Metal prices move daily, and a figure on a screen tells you nothing about the piece in your hand. Bring it in, or send a photograph, and we will give you an informed assessment based on the actual item.
