A goldsmith setting a stone at the bench

The Workshop

Made.
Restored.
Reimagined.

Behind the shop is a bench, a set of tools and over fifty years of accumulated habit. Almost everything we sell has passed across it.

At the bench

Three kinds of work.

Some of it is making something that has never existed before. Some of it is giving an old piece another hundred years. Most weeks it is a little of both.

  • Made for one.

    Bespoke

Commissions designed and made with you, beginning with a conversation rather than a catalogue.

  • Keep the story. Change the piece.

    Remodelling

Inherited or unworn jewellery reworked into something you will actually wear, keeping what matters.

  • Pieces worth keeping deserve looking after.

    Repairs & Restoration

Sizing, cleaning, restringing, claw work, silverware and careful restoration at the bench.

How it usually goes

Four stages, roughly.

  1. 01

    The conversation

What you like, what you don't, what the piece is for and what it needs to cost. Most commissions begin with a chat and no drawings at all.

  2. 02

    Drawings & stones

Ideas become drawings. Stones are then chosen for the design, rather than the design stretched to fit whatever happens to be to hand.

  3. 03

    At the bench

Making, setting, repairing and finishing by hand. If something needs changing, it is far easier to change it while the piece is still open.

  4. 04

    Finished & collected

Sized, checked over and handed back properly — with an explanation of what has been done and how to look after it.

From the bench

“There's not a lot of businesses where you can start as a client and quickly become a friend. Dawsons is that place. Every interaction has been of the upmost professional standards in every way. A great staff, a great experience. A pleasure to deal with.”
