How to Care for Antique Jewellery

Old jewellery was made to be worn, and jewellery that is never worn tends to be the jewellery that gets damaged, usually in a drawer.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners on foiled stones, emeralds, opals and anything with enamel. Warm water, a soft brush and patience will do most of the work.

Have claws checked annually if you wear a ring daily. A ten-minute job at the bench prevents the loss of a stone that cannot be replaced.
